CMT Consulting successfully completed geotechnical supervision of oriented core drilling at the Gross Cluster (Tokko and Roman deposits) which is being mined by Nordgold gold producer.
Geotechnical supervision is an important component of exploration works, which allows design solutions to be developed to a higher level of detail. During the project, CMT logged 1,700 meters of core and selected samples for laboratory testing to determine mechanical properties of rocks.
Deposits are mainly composed of quartz-K-feldspar metasomatites and their varieties that are highly oxidized in certain locations. Plagiogneisses, blastomylonites and dolerite dykes are present to a lesser extent. Rocks are disturbed by microdefects of varying intensity.
As part of geotechnical studies, the rock mass quality was assessed based on a range of parameters and ratings defined during field investigations. Collected rock samples are tested in the laboratory to determine the rock mechanical properties. Correlation analysis showed good repeatability of the results, which confirms the high quality of works completed.
The completed geotechnical project is the next stage of long-term cooperation between CMT and Nordgold.
