In June 2024, SMT specialists began work on a project to further study the fields of the Talnakh deposit mines. A feature of the project is the implementation of interval studies in drilled wells according to the “bottom-up” scheme using the Australian double packer system IPI SWIPS (Straddle system).

When using a double packer, it becomes possible to conduct research in previously drilled wells, in intervals up to 9.5 m thick, for individual tectonic disturbances and fractures, which makes it possible to obtain more detailed hydrogeological parameters.

In addition, performing hydrogeological work after the completion of well drilling can reduce the downtime of drilling equipment and significantly reduce the cost of conducting research in conditions of a complex geological section and, accordingly, low drilling speed, especially for deep wells (more than 500 m).

The project is unique, since at the moment in the CIS only CMT Consulting is competent to carry out such studies with its own double packer IPI SWIPS (Straddle system).
